Until the 1960's hardwood flooring was considered a commom commodity in the new home construction industry. The FHA delivered the hardwood flooring industry its biggest set back in the mid 1960's when it approved carpet as a floorcovering for new home mortgages. The sale of hardwood flooring began decreasing. It was not until the late 1970's that hardwood flooring took a positive turn.
